Fiona is a qualified Myotherapist (Adv Dip Myotherapy) and Remedial Massage Therapist (Dip) who started her career in Vet Nursing and Animal Rehabilitation. Fiona has since made the move from her busy Melbourne Osteopathy and Myotherapy clinics to Newcastle looking for a better work life balance.
Fiona has had a special interest in the way the body functions, develops, and changes with time, age, and environment. Her 10+ years working in the animal industry with animal physiotherapy, orthopaedic injuries, surgery, rehabilitation and many more has given her a fundamental and integral understanding of the health industry and the body. It inspired her to seek further study so she could apply her skills to the human body.
Fiona now merges her academic nursing studies, and extensive experience with her myotherapy training and has managed individualised rehabilitation with all types including orthopaedic injuries with great success.
Fiona is trained in the multiple techniques and advanced skill base of Myotherapy. This includes evidence-based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions targeting the dysfunction and using a range of techniques to make a positive change in the body. Additionally and equally important, educating each client to help them better manage their body.
Techniques Fiona uses include, myofascial dry needling, manual lymphatic drainage, myofascial cupping, pregnancy massage, myofascial tension technique, ‘Muscle Energy Technique’ (MET), point of ease, muscular inhibition, PNF stretching, relaxation, sports massage, and deep tissue massage.
With a considerable range of life experiences, Fiona’s clinical and instinctual manner encourages and supports the use of corrective exercise and tailored stretching regimes for her patients. This way, patients can continue to progress at home and help protect themselves from further injury. Sensitive and thorough in her approach, Fiona aims to help not only in treating musculoskeletal issues via her range of techniques but also to compliment and assist overall health and wellbeing.
Fiona has worked at Elwood Osteo with fitness-based treatment focusing on cyclists, marathon and endurance clients, osteopathic sense chronic conditions and postural conditions, mobile Myotherapy working with senior clients who have mobility problems to maintain joints and movement.
